Club History
"The
Club can trace it's roots back to 1996/97 when a number of local puck chasers, including Mel Lydall and Paul Hickson who are
still with the team, decided to give it a go in full kit. Mel went on to secure a regular late night ice time slot and the
Saturday Midnight Club was born.
Word of a new
'beginners' session quickly spread with player strength boosted by big Paul Morrison who subsequently introduced a number
of talented roller hockey players.
The Club formally registered with EIHA a few years later and a regular influx of players has seen the side go from being soundly beaten by local university
sides to one capable of challenging more established teams.
Ken Johnson of Newcastle Coyotes
fame was responsible for coaching in the early days with John Cay taking over when a bad back forced an extended lay off.
John then handed over to Chris Willey who has been coach ever since .
The emphasis throughout has been on
having a laugh and building a great team spirit and players of all ages and abilities are welcome along.
We Currently play and train at Whitley
bay ice rink on a saturday night between 10:30 and 12:30pm
